Constitution of Pakistan
The Constitution of Pakistan is also called the Constitution of Pakistan and the Executive Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973.
One of the most important tasks for the new government after martial law was lifted was to draft a new constitution.
After the separation of East Pakistan in 1971, the Assembly was formed in 1972 on the basis of the 1970 elections. A committee was formed from a cross-section of different political parties. The aim of this committee was to draft a new constitution in the country that all political parties would agree on. A disagreement within the committee was whether the country should have a parliamentary system of government or a presidential system. Apart from this, there were different views on the issue of provincial autonomy. Eight months were spent by the Constitution Committee in preparing its report, finally on 10 April 1973 it submitted its report on the Constitution. It was approved in the Federal Assembly with a majority of 135 positive votes and on 14 August 1973, this constitution was implemented in Pakistan.
